Performance Testing in Textiles

Compared with mainstream fashion garments, performance fabrics have technical or functional benefits, for comfort and/or safety.

The rise in performance fabrics means there is a need for new and improved technology for testing their performance to back up their claims.

Sportswear and activewear is clothing and footwear worn for sport or exercise, such as tracksuits, shorts, t-shirts and polo shirts.
Performance & Functionality: moisture control and breathability.
Outdoor wear applications a broad and varied, with a primarily technical / functional benefit such as ‘comfort’ and/or ‘safety’. Outdoor wear includes garments such as snowsuits, ski clothing, and hiking/trekking clothing.

Often, outdoor wear consists of a three layer clothing system – base layer, mid layer, outer protective shell – with each layer performing a different function which complements the whole for maximum comfort.

It’s crucial from a safety and comfort perspective, that these fabrics and garments perform as they are intended – to repel water, wind and other environmental factors, and protect the wearer whilst maintaining comfort.
