Elmatear
Tear Strength
This test is designed to measure the required average force when tore a woven fabric. This test provides data to indicate the potential strength of the fabric within a product when the consumer uses that product.
(a) Signle tongue: The CRE type tensile testing machine has become the preferred test apparatus for determining tonggue tearing strength. A specimen cut to form trouser shaped legs. The tear force measured is the force required to propagate a previously started tear when the force is applied parallel to the cut and the fabric tears in the direction of applied force.
(b) Elmendorf: The specimens are mounted between two clamps, precut by a knnofe then torn through a fixed distance by the swinging pendulum to generate the average tearing force in pounds for both warp and weft direction.
